2014 Corvette Stingray Beats Arctic Blast of Old Man Winter

by Bruce Troxell on February 26, 2015

Car & Driver magazine is, and has been for many years, one of the top car magazines, with a history of colorful characters (David E. Davis and Brock Yates spring to mind) and outrageous comparison articles (Pontiac GTO vs. Ferrari GTO and the GMC Syclone vs. Ferrari 348ts, to mention just two). They never seem to pass up a chance to tip over the sacred cows of the automotive world.

We weren’t too surprised then when we heard of their latest, and maybe the ultimate, comparison test — a stock 2014 Corvette Stingray vs. the arctic blast of old man winter. This was not just a run-of-the-mill cold start test. You see, C & D’s editorial headquarters are in beautiful downtown Ann Arbor, Mich. and last Friday Michigan was the coldest state in the country. Ann Arbor had an overnight low of -30°F, which was just shy of the -44°F low at the North Pole!

The inclusion of Briscoe kept the team competitive in 2014′s Daytona 24 Hour race as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring, but issues with the new C7-based Corvette racer kept the team from achiving any kind of real success.

But that was last year.

For 2015, the No.3 Corvette C7.R with Briscoe, Magnussen and Garcia took the checkered flag in the opening round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship which gave Corvette Racing their first Daytona GT victory since 2001.

[PICS] C7 Corvette Stingray Rides on Classic Five-Spoke HRE Wheels

We know that the Chevrolet Corvette has certain design points that are hallmarks of the model, yet look closely and you will also pick up certain design elements that are carried throughout the Chevrolet brand. One of the design hallmarks of a Chevrolet is the inclusion of five-spoke wheels. Whether it’s a Corvette Stingray, a Silverado pickup truck or a Chevrolet Cruze, most likely it comes from the factory riding on five-spoke wheels.

It’s also known that Corvette owners like to personalize their rides and one of the fastest and easiest ways to give your Corvette a new look is with a set of custom wheels. When it comes to Corvettes, HRE Wheels knows that sometimes owners want their wheels to have a little more bling, yet they want to stay with the classic stock look. If that’s how you feel, check out this Velocity Yellow Corvette Stingray riding on HRE’s RS105 forged wheels which feature the classic five-spoke design.
